Bellydance classes & workshops in Amsterdam

Lively Middle-Eastern Dance Art

Sarah combines modern and authentic Oriental dance, also known as belly dance, in weekly classes and special occasion workshops at her cosy studio and at location in Amsterdam. Feel free to get in touch for more information or bookings.

In Oriental dance, we follow the rhythms and melodies of the music through movements of our hips, abdomen, and arms. The movements are powerful, elegant, and beautifully expressive, allowing everyone to discover their own unique style.

About Sarah

My name is Sarah. I was born and raised in the Netherlands. In 2005, I took my very first belly dance class in Nijmegen. What started as an introduction soon grew into a lifelong passion. I haven't stopped dancing since.

As there is no formal professional training programme for Oriental dance in the Netherlands, unlike many other dance forms, I decided to create my own education. I sought out teachers who inspired me, many of them internationally renowned artists in the world of Oriental dance. I travelled extensively to study with them, from Morocco to Egypt and across Europe. Along the way, I gradually developed my own style and identity as a dancer.

For around fifteen years, dance was my full-time profession. I ran my own dance school in Amsterdam, teaching weekly classes, and performed regularly at large weddings, henna celebrations, and other events. I performed both as a solo artist and with Mezdeke Hollanda, the dance group I co-founded. When at it's peak, we became well-known in the Turkish scene, which I still look back on with pride.

Making a living from something as special as Oriental dance feels like an achievement. It takes not only the ability to dance, but also a great deal of entrepreneurship and perseverance. After many years, I began to feel that I wanted to make more room for my other talents, studies, and interests.

Today, I run my own therapy and mindfulness practice, and dance has taken on a different role in my life. I still teach and occasionally perform, but no longer at the pace I once did. I enjoy having a little more balance, stability, and peace in my everyday life.

That certainly doesn't mean my love for dance has faded. I still train intensively, continue to develop my skills, and find endless joy and inspiration in teaching and performing this beautiful art form.

"Where words fall silent, the body begins to speak. And every movement becomes a story."
